Lubov and other Nightmares (Lyubov' i drugie koshmary) (RUSCICO)
Alex created a program that can project man’s dreams onto the screen. Though it’s
only a ploy in order to attract attention to “himself precious”. Alex films his
dreams with a video camera. But here Lubov comes into the shot: Is she a killer or
a friend? A man or a woman? Reality or a nightmare?
Much in this film looks like a biography of the 1970s-1980s dissenting youth who
subconsciously equated their hatred for the regime with love for the country.
The film is made to look like a dream. A chaotic, dangerous, shocking, tongue-in-
cheek, mocking, surrealistic dream. Now you’re being soothingly rocked, now you
get hit on the head, and once again you are rocked, this time anticipating with
some trepidation another blow.
The breathtaking soundtrack unites Bach with Grebenshchikov, Vivaldi with Tom
Waits, Puccini with “Elsa’s Ocean”, jazz with folklore.
