Yurij Dmitrievich Sarancev rodilsya 7 oktyabrya 1928 goda v sele Melike Saratovskoj oblasti. V 1951 godu on okonchil Vsesoyuznyj gosudarstvennyj institut kinematografii, gde zanimalsya v masterskoj Sergeya Yutkevicha i Mihaila Romma, i stal akterom Teatra-studii kinoaktera, a s 1957 goda rabotal na kinostudii imeni M.Gor'kogo. V kino Yurij Sarancev debyutiroval v 1951 godu, sygrav rol' komsorga v kartine "V stepi". V dal'nejshem akter igral raznoobraznye roli - sovremennikov v fil'mah "Vernye druz'ya" (1954), "Dobroe utro" (1955), "Sluchaj na shahte vosem'" (1958), "Zhizn' proshla mimo" (1959), v istoricheskih, voennyh, priklyuchencheskih i fantasticheskih fil'mah. Osobo sleduet otmetit' sredi rabot Yuriya Saranceva tochnye ostroharakternye portrety: P'yankov ("Pri ispolnenii sluzhebnyh obyazannostej", 1964), Taksist ("Tridcat' tri", 1966), Migaev ("Talanty i poklonniki", 1973), Burov ("Vystrel v spinu", 1980). Vsego na schetu artista - svyshe 120 rolej v kino.
