Galina Borisovna Volchek rodilas' v 1933 godu v Moskve, v sem'e izvestnogo sovetskogo kinooperatora Borisa Volcheka. S 1956 goda ona igrala na scene moskovskogo teatra "Sovremennik", a v 1972 godu stala glavnym rezhisserom e'togo teatra. V chisle postavlennyheyu spektaklej - "Obyknovennaya istoriya" po I.A.Goncharovu (pozzhe snyataya dlya televideniya), "E'shelon" M.Roschina, "Krutoj marshrut" po E.Ginzburg. V kino Galina Volchek nachala snimat'sya v 1957 godu, debyutirovav v fil'me "Don Kihot", postavlennom rezhisserom Grigoriem Kozincevym s Nikolaem Cherkasovym i Yuriem Tolubeevym v glavnyh rolyah. Sredi naibolee zametnyh kinorabot aktrisy - sozdannaya Grigoriem Kozincevym e'kranizaciya "Korolya Lira", detskij fil'm "Pro Krasnuyu Shapochku. Prodolzhenie staroj skazki", snyatyj Leonidom Nechaevym, tragikomediya Georgiya Daneliya "Osennij marafon".
