Sergej Fedorovich Bondarchuk rodilsya 25 sentyabrya 1920 goda v Belozerske na Ukraine. Okonchil teatral'noe uchilische v Rostove - na-Donu i VGIK, gde uchilsya na akterskom fakul'tete, v masterskoj S.A.Gerasimova i T.F.Makarovoj . Svoyu kar'eru v kino Sergej Bondarchuk nachinal v kachestve aktera: v 1948 godu, esche buduchi studentom, on debyutiroval v fil'me svoego uchitelya Sergeya Gerasimova `Molodaya gvardiya` . Zatem posledovali roli v takih izvestnyh sovetskih fil'mah kak `Taras Shevchenko` (1951) i `Otello` (1955). Rezhisserskij debyut Bondarchuka sostoyalsya v1959 godu - po rasskazu Mihaila Sholohova on postavil fil'm `Sud'ba cheloveka` , gde takzhe sygral glavnuyu rol'. Fil'm poluchil glavnyj priz Moskovskogo kinofestivalya i prines rezhisseru vsemirnoe priznanie. Posle s'emok v kartine Roberto Rossellini `V Rime byla noch'` (1960) Bondarchuk zanyalsya rabotoj nad glavnym svoim fil'mom `Vojna i mir` po romanu L'va Tolstogo . Po zapadnym ocenkam, byudzhet fil'ma sostavil 100 000 000 dollarov. V 1968 godu lenta `Vojna i mir` poluchila premiyu `Oskar` kak luchshij inostrannyj fil'm i byla priznana luchshej e'kranizaciej v istorii kino. Posleduyuschie raboty Bondarchuka, takie kak `Vaterloo` (1971) ili `Boris Godunov` (1986), ne smogli povtorit' uspeha ego grandioznoj e'popei, hotya rabota Bondarchukanad geroiko - patrioticheskim fil'mom `Oni srazhalis' za Rodinu` (1975) byla ocenena Gosudarstvennoj premiej Rossii. Sergej Fedorovich Bondarchuk - otec izvestnoj sovetskoj aktrisy Natal'i Bondarchuk ( `Solyaris` ). 20 oktyabrya 1994 goda Sergej Bondarchuk skonchalsya v Moskve.
