Hip-hop arrived in the post-Soviet republics and found local language waiting for it. Artists from Ukraine, Belarus, and across the former Soviet space took the global genre and made it their own: the cadences of Russian and Ukrainian, local slang, street experience from cities that Western hip-hop had never imagined. A scene that grew quietly and then could not be ignored.
