Foreman Uncle Vova and Georgian student Gedevan accidentally found themselves on a strange desert planet, Plyuk, in the faraway galaxy “Kin-Dza-Dza”. The planet’s inhabitants looked like humans and understood Russian, because they could read people’s minds, although their own language was pretty limited. Virtually everything, with a rare exception, was expressed by one word – “koo”. The planet’s entire population was divided into two castes: the superior one – “chatlians”, and the lower one – “patsaks”. Uncle Vova and Gedevan, who learned they were patsaks, had been trying throughout the film to get back to Earth, in which they finally succeeded, after many an adventure…

Georgy Daneliya: “After my film “Tears Were Falling”, I felt like making something punkish. And I’ve got an idea – take Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” and place it in outer space: instead of a ship and an island, a rocket and a planet…”

Prorab dyadya Vova i gruzinskij student Gedevan neozhidannym obrazom okazalis na strannoj planete-pustyne Plyuk v dalekoj galaktike Kin-dza-dza. ZHiteli etoj planety vyglyadeli kak lyudi i ponimali russkij yazyk, tak kak oni umeli chitat mysli, odnako ih sobstvennyj yazyk byl ochen ogranichennym. Prakticheski vse ponyatiya, za redkim isklyucheniem, vyrazhalis odnim slovom – «ku». Vse naselenie planety delilos na dve kasty: vysshuyu – «chatlane» i nizshuyu – «patsaki». Dyadya Vova i Gedevan, okazavshiesya patsakami, ves film pytayutsya vernutsya na Zemlyu, chto im v kontse kontsov, posle mnozhestva priklyuchenij udaetsya…
