Esche v shkol'nye gody on uvleksya teatrom i kino, a posle okonchaniya shkoly otpravilsya v Moskvu i pytalsya postupit' v GITIS, no neudachno. Vernuvshis' v Erevan, Armen Dzhigarhanyan ustroilsya na kinostudiyu «Armenfil'm» pomoschnikom operatora. V 1958 godu okonchil Erevanskiy hudozhestvenno - teatral'nyy institutna kurs A.K.Gulakyana. Na scenu akter vpervye vyshel v yanvare 1955 goda - v spektakle «Ivan Rybakov» Russkogo dramaticheskogo teatra imeni K.S.Stanislavskogo.V truppu e'togo erevanskogo teatra, gde Dzhigarhanyan prorabotal bolee desyati let, ego priglasili esche studentom-vtorokursnikom. V 1967 godu aktera priglasil v Moskovskiy teatr imeni Leninskogo komsomola Anatoliy E'fros, a v 1969 godu Dzhigarhanyan nachal igrat'u Andreya Goncharova v Moskovskom teatre imeni V.Mayakovskogo, na scene kotorogo on, v chastnosti, sygral roli Stenli Koval'skogo v «Tramvae «Zhelanie» i Bol'shogo Pa v «Koshke na raskalennoy kryshe» T.Uil'yamsa, Sokrata v «Besedah s Sokratom» E'dvarda Radzinskogo, generala Hludova v «Bege» Mihaila Bulgakova. V sentyabre 1996 goda Armen Dzhigarhanyan ushel iz teatra imeni Mayakovskogo, no prodolzhaet vystiupat' na scene v spektaklyah drugih teatrov i v antrepriznyh postanovkah.
V kino akter debyutiroval v 1960 godu rol'yu Akopa v fil'me «Obval», a izvestnost' Armenu Dzhigarhanyanu prinesla odna iz luchshih ego kinoroley - molodoy uchenyy-fizik Artem Manvelyan iz kartiny rezhissera Frunze Dovlatyana «Zdravstvuy, e'to ya!». Vskore posle vyhoda e'togo fil'ma posledovali novye interesnye raboty, demonstriruyuschie shirotu akterskogo diapazona, psihologicheskuyu dostovernost' i masterstvo perevoploscheniya - kuznec Ust Mukuch v «Treugol'nike», Levon Pogosyan v drame «Kogda nastupaet sentyabr'», kapitan Ovechkin v populyareyshih «Novyh priklyucheniyah neulovimyh» E'dmonda Keosayana, chekist Artuzov v televizionnoy lente «Operaciya «Trest», e'ser Prosh'yan v istoricheskoy kartine «Shestoe iyulya», Mihail Styshnoy v «Zhuravushke».
